SSI Benefits

SSI benefits are different from SSDI. We help make the difference clear.

Supplemental Security Income, often called SSI, may help people with disabilities who have limited income and resources. It is separate from SSDI, which is based on work history. Bird Rock can help you understand which path may be relevant.

SSI is based on need

SSI looks at disability status along with income, resources, and living situation. A person may explore SSI even if they do not have enough recent work history for SSDI.

Medical limits still matter

Like SSDI, SSI usually requires medical evidence showing how a condition affects the ability to function and work. Diagnoses, treatment history, symptoms, and daily limits can all be part of the story.

Some people consider both programs

Depending on work history and financial circumstances, a person may need to understand SSDI, SSI, or both. You do not need to know the answer before you ask for guidance.

You can start with what you have

Medical records, provider names, medication lists, income details, and letters from Social Security can be helpful. If something is missing, we can help identify the gaps and explain what may be needed next.
